Description:

site_logo1For many, rethinking education for many looks like unschooling or self directed learning. For many families who were once “Rethinking Education” now find themselves now “Rethinking Everything!” Tonight we are going to speak with two couples from the Rethinking Everything Conference. The conference is about to meet for the 19th time. Rethinking Everything or RE for short, is one of the oldest Un-schooling conferences in the US and their tribe is well versed on the in’s and out’s of this learning style as well as how it affects (if not defines) their families. Those that commit to rethinking education have really said “yes” to “self-designed learning.” And, once a family embraces self-designed-learning it’s only a matter of time before the conversation flows into “self designed living”. Tonight we speak with two dynamic and thoughtful families discuss their lives, Un-schooling and what it means to truly RE-think Everything..

Bios of Tonight’s Guests:

Melissa Rivera

melissaMelissa Rivera is a scholar, who conducts participatory action research (PAR), teaches body wisdom, and writes about connection, creativity and change. She has dedicated the last 20 years to PAR with public schools and universities, community arts and entrepreneurial organizations and a women’s maximum-security prison, using an approach to learning and human development rooted in developmental, women’s and humanistic psychology, ancient spiritual traditions, creativity and expressive arts, critical theory and conscious activism.

Her passion for personal transformation, community development and social justice has inspired the co-development of programs, projects and publications with young people, educators and entrepreneurs, artists and activists.

She received her undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Brown University and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, respectively, and her coaching certification from Applied Emotional Mastery. She lives her soul adventures with her beloved husband and children.

Dino Martinez

DinoDino Martinez is the founder and lead instructor of Florida PTK, an organization dedicated to the Filipino martial art of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali (PTK). His commitment to martial arts and functional movement over the past 15 years has included studies in PTK, Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and strength conditioning (CSCS). These philosophical and physical explorations have deepened and sustained an inquiry about learning, mastery, and community. Unschooling has been a natural extension of this process (as has rethinking socially-sanctioned frameworks for work/career, marriage/fatherhood). He lives with his wife and their two children in Florida.

At this year’s RE conference, Dino has been invited to share both PTK instruction and personal stories about his family’s unschooling lifestyle.

Kevin Sabourin

kevinKevin is a husband and father of three unschooled children. His love of life and people as well as his pursuit of freedom and experience has contributed to their family travels both domestic and abroad.  The family lives in an RV. They travel the United States when they’re not in the jungles in Costa Rica, on the beaches of Nicaragua or atop the mountains of Peru. Kevin and his family believe that the only thing holding them back from where they want to go next is their passion, alignment and creativity.

Previously holding key corporate positions in sales, marketing and account management, Kevin currently celebrates a self-designed career as a consultant (Sabourin Consulting) entrepreneur (www.EquipmentSite.com) and as the Co-Owner of the Rethinking Everything (RE) conference.

Together with his wife and partner, Kelly, they have undertaken a number of “rethinking” topics including; marriage (vows), (natural) birth, immunizations, circumcisions, health, wellness, financial success and freedom and responsibility. Their desire to rethink led to the natural conclusion of joining the RE movement and, eventually, buying the business.
RE’s 19-year mission has been to offer people a safe space for intentional circles of conversation about issues such as unschooling, conscious parenting and family living, health and wellness, career development and conscious capitalism at its annual conference.

This year at RE2015, Kevin will be hosting talks on “rethinking dad” as well as work-life balance. He will also be sharing his thoughts and opinions in the areas of Unschooling and The Sacred Masculine. For more information about his work, please visit:

Kelly Kraemer Sabourin

kellyKelly is a partner and mother of three unschooled children. Over the past decade, her intuitive-led lifestyle has invited her to learn and travel with her family via RV across the United States as well as abroad, from the jungles in Costa Rica to the beaches of Nicaragua and to the mountains of Peru.

Formally the Assistant Director of a women’s crisis center (Women Helping women), Executive Director of a Domestic Violence Center (Sexual Assault Center) and Co-Owner of a bed-and-breakfast business (Deer Creek Cottages and Guesthouse), she and her husband are now the new owners of the Rethinking Everything (RE) conference.

RE’s 19-year mission has been to offer people a safe space for intentional circles of conversation about issues such as unschooling, partnership and attachment parenting, health and wellness, career development and conscious capitalism at its annual conference.

Her undergraduate degree is in child and family psychology from Bowling Green State University and her master’s degree in social work is from the University of Georgia. Her vision (to live joy) is captured in the Conversations with God book series, Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi and the work of Abraham Hicks and Eckart Tolle.

This year at RE2015, Kelly will be sharing her thoughts and opinions in the area or Unschooling and The Sacred Feminine. For more information about her work, please visit:
